Given our name – Leeuwen means Lions – it is more than logical that we care about lions. It is an imposing animal that in many parts of the world is known as ‘King of the Animal Kingdom’. On June 23, our CEO Joop Sassen and Robert Kruijff, Managing Director of the Lion Foundation, signed the contract. Van Leeuwen will support the care given to the beautiful lion couple Aslan and Ayla for two years. After sponsoring Diergaarde Blijdorp in Rotterdam and the lion Kumar for several years, our Van Leeuwen family once again has new members!
The Lion Foundation shelters and cares for lions and other large felines, including former circus animals. If possible, the Foundation prepares them for a return to their country of origin, such as South Africa. This sponsorship enables the Foundation to shelter more lions and other large felines and hopefully to return them to their natural habitat.
