Einar Asmundsson, founder of Sindri Stal

Kari Geirlaugsson, owner of Guðmundur Arason, stated: “Our cooperation since we bought the stock of Sindra stal in 2007 has been excellent. The main reason is the invaluable mutual trust between our companies. It has been a joy from the beginning to work with all the employees of Van Leeuween. We at Guðmundur Arason are all looking forward to continuing our business and business relationship for many more years.”

Van Leeuwen has an extensive partnership with Guðmundur Arason. This Icelandic company is a family-owned business specializing in the import and sale of iron and steel.
The partnership started at the end of the 1960s, where our director and founder Piet van Leeuwen and Einar Asmundsson met at an international conference. Einar Asmundsson founded the company Sindri Stal in 1949, which is since 2007 part of Guðmunder Arason.

Several projects have been developed together with Arason over the last years where Van Leeuwen supplied casing pipes for drilling to (hot) water sources and coated pipes for transportation of jet-fuel for the airport of Keflavik.

Our export department in Zwijndrecht ships pipes, fittings, and flanges to Iceland on a weekly basis. Guðmundur Arason is delivering these materials to the construction industry, fish processing companies, equipment manufacturers and companies active in energy supplies on the island.

Projects

From left to right: Thor (sales), Anna Johanna Gudmundsdottir (owner and finance), Kari Geirlaugsson (owner and sales), Laufey (book-keeping) and Silli (sales) with our Centennial cars.

A key focus in our partnership has always been the promotion of sustainability and efficiency in Iceland's energy sector. Iceland is unique when it comes to sustainability. 90% of its primary energy supply and almost 100% of its electricity are obtained from renewable-energy sources; for example, steam is used to heat homes. Together, we can contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future.
