Project OneHalmstad is now successfully completed after a three-year exhilarating journey from concept to reality. On December 7, 2023, Heléns celebrated the grand opening in the presence of Peter Rietberg (Chairman of the Management Board), our colleagues at Heléns, Van Leeuwen, and Polarputki, Members of the Municipal Council, our project partners, and other esteemed guests. A new chapter has begun for Heléns, promising increased synergies, sustainability, operational efficiency, and ultimately, a positive impact on the bottom line.

As of 1 July 2023, NV Jean Wauters - Aciers Spéciaux has been merged with N.V. Van Leeuwen Buizen België. A significant step for our two Belgian companies, that now have joined forces to continue to offer our customers a broad range of high-quality products and value-added services.

These two prominent players in the Benelux steel business have a long history of operating alongside each other – Van Leeuwen Belgium offering tubes, pipes and hollow sections from Vilvoorde, and Wauters offering bar steel products from Brussels. Their paths converged in 2012, when the Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group acquired Jean Wauters.

Stocks from Wauters have been transferred partly to Vilvoorde and partly to Zwijndrecht. We will maintain the brand name of Jean Wauters.

In 2023, we completed the installation of the Monorail. All input and output stations, from hall E to hall N, have been installed. In January, we commenced functional testing. Additionally, we initiated training sessions, which are still ongoing in February and March. In February, we concluded the testing phase, conducted acceptance tests, and on February 20th, we went live with the first transport! The next step is to scale up to 100% Dutch distribution via the Monorail.

We have established a strong and enduring partnership with the automotive specialist Felss, renowned for its expertise in forming technologies. This cooperation is facilitated through our dedicated Van Leeuwen automotive sales team in Mannheim. Within the state-of-the-art facilities in Duisburg, Van Leeuwen Germany is set to process over 1 million pieces annually for Felss.

Our value-added services, including precision cut-to-length with defined end machining and thorough circular and axial runout testing, demonstrate our commitment to delivering exceptional quality. Van Leeuwen Mannheim excels as a reliable partner with deep production know-how, excellent supply chain and supplier management, and a personalized logistics approach.

In September, our company Van Leeuwen Precisie, located at Deventer in the Netherlands, achieved the successful completion of an RSA sawing installation, that was taken over from Van Leeuwen’s company Heléns in Sweden.

The RSA is now fully operational, restored to its original condition, and prepared to enhance our operations at full capacity, to the benefit of our customers. The capabilities provided by this installation include cutting the following materials:

  • Round tube: 12 mm up to 105 mm

  • Standard bar steel: 12 mm up to 30 mm

  • Square tube: 12 x 12 mm up to 80 x 80 mm

  • Rectangular tube: 10 x 12 mm up to 60 x 100 mm

  • Wall thickness: 1 mm up to 5 mm

  • Fix lengths: 150 mm up to 3.000 mm

  • Tolerance: -0/+2 mm or -1/+1 mm

  • Speed: 500 up to 1.500 pieces per hour (depending on size)

  • Options: Material for cutting, deburring, and cleaning

Van Leeuwen Malaysia has successfully delivered 100 kilometers of 3-Layer Polyethylene Coated Pipeline for Gas Malaysia Distribution. The project lasted from November 2022 to July 2023 and achieved On Time Delivery.

PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) is a leading company in the petrochemical sector, specializing in the synthesis of olefins and aromatics. It is the largest petrochemical and refining company in Thailand and a key player in the Asia-Pacific region. PTTGC is internationally the largest producer of bioplastics.

As a crucial component of the PTT Group, with fifteen chemical and petrochemical plants in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) of Thailand, PTTGC has recently strengthened its cooperation with Van Leeuwen Thailand through an MRO contract. This Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) contract, with a duration of one year, includes the supply of carbon steel pipes, fittings, and flanges, including galvanized materials.

Van Leeuwen Thailand, as a reliable partner, will not only ensure daily deliveries for the MRO contract but also has the opportunity to offer additional products. With a well-stocked inventory in the warehouse in Chonburi and its own transportation means, Van Leeuwen is capable of meeting the demanding delivery needs of PTTGC.

Van Leeuwen Singapore and the South Korean company Samsung Engineering Co. Ltd. (SECL) have entered into an important cooperation. SECL is a provider of engineering, procurement construction (EPC) services. It carries out the construction of petrochemical and gas plants.

Following an extensive selection process, SECL has chosen Van Leeuwen as its sole Frame Agreement holder to support their projects in Southeast Asia. These projects primarily involve (Petro-)Chemical new build projects, wherein Van Leeuwen will supply full scope of pipes, fittings, and flanges. Through this strategic stockist frame agreement, our mutual goal is to improve material management for SECL's projects.
