The Agritechnica 2025 in Hannover once again confirmed that the shift toward alternative drive systems is accelerating.
Electric tractors can now run for several hours under full load and can be fast charged. They offer high efficiency and reduced maintenance, although purchase costs and range during heavy work remain challenges. Hybrid tractors combine diesel and electric drives for lower fuel consumption, reduced emissions and the ability to use electric power for peak loads or short, emission-free tasks. Hydrogen-powered tractors are considered a promising solution for large farms: quick refuelling, long range and zero local emissions. The technology is still developing but it holds strong potential for energy-intensive operations.
