Groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new office was held in June this year.

The Heléns head office and warehouse are located in Halmstad, Sweden. Over the years, Heléns has expanded its activities, through acquisitions and joint ventures with subsidiaries in Denmark and the Baltic states, and through a joint venture in Finland. Today, the Heléns team consists of almost 300 dedicated employees. The company specializes in the Automotive, Civil Engineering & Construction, Hydraulics, Mechanical Engineering and Process segments.

Heléns Rör, part of the Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group, celebrated its 95th anniversary in September. The company was founded by Paul Helén in 1927 and over the years grew into a market leader in steel pipes and tubes, and bar steel in Scandinavia.

Managing Director Eva Täljegård: ‘With our broad product portfolio, supply and services, we have been a leading partner for industry in Scandinavia for almost a century. We are now strengthening our leading market position as a supplier of high-quality pipe and tube solutions with the groundbreaking OneHalmstad Project. This project enables us to further streamline our supply, activities and competitive capacity.

OneHalmstad consolidates our new modern head office and warehousing operations at a single central location. This yields advanced synergies across the entire production line. Effective September 2023, OneHalmstad is expected to be fully operational.

Van Leeuwen Belgium

The year 2022

Today, in 2022, Van Leeuwen Belgium serves customers in the Civil Engineering & Construction, Hydraulics, Mechanical Engineering, Process & Power and Pipelines segments. Van Leeuwen Belgium generates a large part of its sales from contracts with customers in the petrochemical industry in the Port of Antwerp, and the mechanical engineering sector. The largest energy and chemical companies in the world form part of its permanent customer base.

Commercial Director Nadia Chhiti (Wauters) and Steve Vandermeulen (Van Leeuwen Buizen Belgium) cut the cake.

In 1947, Van Leeuwen opened its first foreign branch in Belgium. A few years after the start-up in Brussels, new accommodations were purchased in Vilvoorde, in the heart of Belgium. The branch continued to grow over the years. For instance, in 2011, Van Leeuwen Belgium expanded its storage space in Vilvoorde with a new warehouse covering over 2,400 m2. In 2012, Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group acquired the Jean Wauters steel distribution company in Brussels. Earlier this year, Van Leeuwen Belgium’s employees moved to a new, modern office in Vilvoorde. The warehouse remains at the old address.

Successful future

Pieter Smaege, Managing Director of Van Leeuwen Belgium: ‘Industry in Europe is facing major challenges. Factors like climate change, digitalization, geopolitical tensions, a changed economic balance of power, labor shortages and the energy supply come to mind. Despite all this we foresee a successful future. Our key partners and suppliers are increasingly prepared to invest. Moreover, we increasingly offer many of our customers innovative pipe and tube applications, particularly in the area of sustainability, for example for windmills, solar panels, hydrogen transport and electric cars. In addition, we have a team of loyal and hardworking employees, who make all the difference.’

This year Van Leeuwen Belgium reached its 75th anniversary. At the end of September, customers, shareholders, suppliers, colleagues and acquaintances came together at the Vilvoorde branch to celebrate this milestone. When it was founded in 1947, Van Leeuwen Belgium was the first branch outside the Netherlands. It was an important first step in the international expansion of what has since become our globally established family business.
